I live with my wife, Jenni, and two English Pointers, Barley & Molly in a traditional, Seventeenth Century brick & flint cottage, set on the side of a South Downs valley with large forest views across - peace and quiet for getting lost in my work (with just the very occasional interruption from low-flying military Chinook helicopters, to remind me of the world outside!).
Photo of early morning mist across the valley, from the garden.
Andrew Hunt - Horse Portrait Artist
Having gained my Higher Diploma at Portsmouth College of Art & Design, I now live & work within the Southdowns National Park, in West Sussex, UK, and have been a professional artist for over 25 years.
Surrounded by fine horse riding country, it proves to be a continuous source of inspiration for my work - I have developed a deep love of capturing the majesty, beauty and character of the horse in my paintings.
Working primarily in acrylics on canvas or board, my style is detailed and closely observed, with much attention given to carefully portraying the individual horses’ characteristics, build and coat.
I never cease to be thrilled with the wonderful compliments I get back from clients when they see their much-loved horse in the completed painting - job satisfaction par excellence!
The evocation of both an ordered and beautiful world provides much inspiration for a selection of my paintings, which endeavour to capture something of a classical spirit. This is born out of my particular interest in early Georgian artists from the 1700’s, including such masters as Stubbs, Gilpin and Agasse, with their mix of arcadian landscape and formality.
Do take a look at my gallery of horse portraits, and if you would like to enquire about having a painting produced of your own horse(s), then please do get in contact.
