Roscoe - Dark Bay with four white socks
Horse Portrait painting by Andrew Hunt

(Acrylic on board)
Roscoe, a lovely Bay with four matching half pasterns, is stabled at a site that overlooks a lavender field, so my client chose to request this as a landscape setting for the painting.
As a surprise present, it was important to visit the stables and make studies of Roscoe, without meeting the owner, nor prompting any questions from her fellow horse owners at the stables, who might then inadvertently spoil the surprise.
Careful planning with the client meant all went well, having also timed the visit to coincide with the lavendar field being in full bloom.

Client's response:
"The detail and likeness captured was astonishing. We will treasure this picture for generations to come"
Andy

Having taken plenty of reference photos on the day, I selected several to work from - the pose being just right in one, the tail in another, the ears, another. Having timed the visit to the stables for the levendar being in bloom, we almost missed it, with the farmer starting to gather in the harvest as we arrived - just in time!
